Since ancient times, the pearl has been a symbol of unblemished perfection. I for one, did not know it is the oldest known gem, and for centuries the pearl was considered the most valuable of all gems. A fragment of the oldest known pearl jewelry, found in the sarcophagus of a Persian princess who died in 520 BC, is displayed in the Louvre in Paris. To the ancients, pearl's were a symbol of the moon and had magical powers. In classical Rome, only persons above a certain rank were allowed to wear pearl jewelry such as pearl necklaces. The Latin word for pearl literally means "unique", attesting to the fact that no two pearl's are identical. Pearls have been considered ideal wedding gifts because they symbolize purity and innocence. In the Hindu religion, the presentation of an undrilled pearl and its piercing has formed part of the marriage ceremony. I have always felt the pearl was a great gift to give because they are an elegant yet subtle form of jewelry. I have bought several pearl necklaces over the years and feel I have become a bit of a pearl necklaces guru. I found a very nice set of pearl earrings that will match the identical pearl necklaces I gave my daughters for Christmas two years ago. The 14K gold 16mm white shell pearl earrings pictured here can be found at A1 Jewelry Online.
This online website has a large selection of discount watches, wholesale jewelry, 14k golf jewelry, and beautiful pearl earrings along with many other types of gold jewelry. All this at discount prices. Located at www.a1jewelryonline.com I am happy I found this wholesale jewelry site. There are many different types of pearl. Most people are familiar with the saltwater pearl's but there are also freshwater pearl's with cultured pearl's accounting for the majority of pearl's sold today. Any pearl necklaces most people own are most likely made from cultured pearl's. These are pearl's that are "farmed" by pearl farmers. Cultured pearl's are a product of pearl farmers helping nature. Several inventors at the beginning of the 20th century discovered techniques of pearl cultivation. This mass pearl farming has made what was once considered the most valuable of gems a commodity available to people worldwide at prices much lower than would be the case if pearl necklaces were still made from the pearl's only mother nature produces. And I for one am glad of this because my daughters love receiving pearl's necklaces as Christmas gifts.
